THE WORD OF GOD MAKES NO EARTHLY SENSE
By: Ferd Sebastian
When God speaks or we read His word, we try to understand and make sense of it with our experience in the natural. Here is where many of us fail. We reason it out and we do not see how this is possible. So we give up. Or worse we start to believe that the Bible is foolishness.
I am here to tell you that what God speaks is spiritual. It makes perfect spiritual sense. And we must know that spiritual sense is far above natural sense. As it was the spiritual (Word of God) that formed the natural. So the Word of God is the real truth no matter what our natural mind thinks about it. What we must learn to do is to think with the mind of Christ. Not our natural mind.
Let us look at Peter in Luke 5:4-9, here Jesus is speaking and here is what Peter is thinking.
4 When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."
5 Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
Let us look at this from Peter's point of view. Peter is saying to himself, Jesus is a carpenters son. I am a fisherman's son. What does He know about fish? I run a successful fishing business. I feed and cloth my family from my work. Now we have been out all night fishing and we have caught nothing. Every fisherman knows that the fishing is best at night and we were out all night trying. So if we did not catch any last night we will not catch any today. Also Jesus said to go out into the deep. Dumb. We fish in the shallows. Where out nets drag the bottom. No one is stupid enough to fish out in the deep. Why does He not just preach. I will listen to that. Leave the fishing to people who know what they are doing. And I am the best fisherman in the fleet.
I will just show Him how dumb this is. So Peter said, and you can catch the sarcasm in this, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because You say so, I will let down the nets." Now we are going to do this and I will show Jesus that He does not know my business. He will look like a fool.
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.
7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.
8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!"
9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken,
Why did Peter fall to his knees and ask the Lord to go from him? Because he had not believed Jesus. He was just trying to show how smart he was and to make Jesus look like a fool. He realized that Jesus was speaking the words of God. It did not make human sense. But Jesus, with the power of God spoke the words. And Peter had done as asked of him. And the words worked even thought Peter had not believed. But you see Jesus was there and He did believe.
The words of God work. No matter what we think. However they will not work without our faith. That is the key to the power of God's word. When we mix them with our faith, we have dynamic power working for us. Look at some of the other things that Jesus has taught us to do. They make no human sense ... But if we do them, they work.
23 "I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Now that is just about as stupid a natural statement as I have ever heard. We will speak something and throw a mountain into the sea. Here the mountain represents our problems. It could be cancer or a number of other things that confront us here on earth. And yes even a mountain could be moved. I have no doubt that if I was in a landslide and covered with a mountain of dirt and called on Jesus in faith ... That mountain would be moved. The only requirement that Jesus makes is that we can not doubt His word in our heart.
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Whatever we ask for. We must believe we have it. Again this makes no human sense. We are going to believe we have something before we get it ... Jesus is asking us to believe His word above all we see around us. He is asking us to walk by faith, not by sight. 2Cor. 5:7.
You do this everyday in the natural. Why is it so hard to believe God? Everyday when you go to work you know that you made so many dollars. And that it is yours. But you are not going to get it until the end of the week. Jesus is asking you to do the same thing. When you ask believe that it is yours. As it will be coming. You believed a company that could go broke. Why can you not believe God?
Here is another one ...
43 Ye have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.
20 Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
We want to take revenge ... Get even. Fight it out ... But if you do it God's way. He gets even for you. He fights it out. You do not get stressed. Your life is peaceful. You get the blessing. You not only do not disturb your life, you also solve the problem. Just try it. Your enemy will end up saying that he is sorry and will try to befriend you or at the very least he will leave you alone, because there is no way to fight against the fruit of the Spirit.
The more you trust God and His word. The easier, happier, more content your life will be here on earth. God has given us the instruction manual, the Bible. He made the earth. He made you. Certainly He know the best way to keep us in good health physically and mentally. Plus suppling all of our needs to exist here as children of God. It is time we start paying attention to what our Father is telling us.
FAR AFTER ALL, WHAT HAS GOD MADE YOU? 1 JOHN 3:1 HOW GREAT IS THE LOVE THE FATHER HAS LAVISHED ON US, THAT WE SHOULD BE CALLED CHILDREN OF GOD! AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE! ... Ferd@2jesus
